St. Stephen’s Church has just called its new Rector!
St Stephen’s new Rector is The Rev. Nils Chittenden. He is married to Kelly Skaggs and they have just moved into the Rectory with their two cats, following their relocation from North Carolina.
Fr. Nils was born and raised in England, and moved to the US in 2010. His wife, Kelly, is originally from Kansas City, Missouri but lived in North Carolina from 1996 and they met in 2008. Fr. Nils was the Chaplain of the Episcopal Center at Duke University and Missioner for Young Adult Ministry for the Diocese of North Carolina from 2010 until moving to Armonk. Kelly works as a manager for IBM.
Prior to moving to the US, Fr. Nils spent fifteen years as an ordained minister in the Church of England working, variously, in parishes, cathedrals, universities and non-profits. He also ran his own consultancy business part-time alongside his other positions. This consultancy work mostly focused on helping non-profits and churches with strategic development, fundraising and community engagement and he anticipates doing similar consultancy work here as the position at St Stephen’s is currently half-time.
Fr. Nils said, “Kelly and I are really looking forward to meeting you and becoming part of the wider Armonk community. Across the whole country, the Church is in a time of major change as it responds to the ways society is redefining itself. I think the Episcopal Church, with its commitment to finding a middle way, its embracing of reason, and its welcoming of all people without exception, places us in a uniquely beneficial position to reach out to our neighbors. I firmly believe that most people are seeking a connection with the Divine and I’m excited about the ways in which we can bring God’s love and care to this corner of NY!”
“Both Kelly and I are so happy to be joining the St Stephen’s community and I look forward to getting to know you, and to serving you as your priest and friend.”
