Acting in Truth

How much time and energy do we waste in our everyday lives trying to sort out honesty from dishonesty? From public statements and speeches to business dealings to workplace interactions to personal relationships and even things we sometimes tell ourselves, we are constantly subjected to the task of trying to figure out what we can trust and what we can’t. In this sermon Fr. Garrett looks at the damage done to our relationships and within ourselves by dishonesty through the lens of Jesus’ teaching (Matthew 5:21-37) about the consequences of trying to skirt around what we know is right through technicalities, half-truths, obfuscation, and justifications. Truth telling is uncomfortable sometimes. But truth avoiding is even more harmful one way or another most of the time.
