Believing is Seeing

In contrast with the popular expression, sometimes the only way to be able to see something is to first believe that it's there. In this week's narrative from the Gospel of John (9:1-41) Jesus performs an eye-opening miracle. But some who see the evidence of it right in front of them and hear the story from the person who it happened to still refuse to believe it. Fr. Garrett explains how the power of unbelief still causes people to deny things in plain sight. From manipulative conspiracy mongers to fraudulent idealogues, sometimes it's not the absence of evidence that's the problem but rather the stubbornness of misplaced convictions. God offers the simple yet profound gift of clear sight. But those to whom the offer is extended still have to want to see.
