Marriage & Weddings

There is an important distinction between a wedding and marriage. A wedding is the celebratory day event that initiates the marriage, which is, we all hope, lifelong. The Church can help you with both the wedding and preparing for married life.

Episcopal Church rules require that at least one of the parties seeking marriage have been baptized. Baptism administered by any Christian denomination is recognized as fulfilling this requirement.

If you have previously been married and have divorced, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t get married in church again. The Episcopal Church recognizes the reality is that some marriages are not able to last for a lifetime. We believe that God can give all of us another chance, so please contact the priest to discuss your specific circumstances. All decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.

The Episcopal Church warmly welcomes same-sex couples who wish to be married.

To inquire about having a wedding service at St. Stephen's, or to receive marriage counseling in preparation for a wedding ceremony elsewhere, or to ask our priest to officiate at your wedding service (either here at St. Stephen’s or another location), please email us using the icon at the foot of this page and we will get back to you right away.

Once you have arranged for our priest to officiate at your wedding, either here at St. Stephen’s or at another location), you will need to complete the Marriage Arrangement Form.

If our priest is not officiating at your wedding, but is undertaking your marriage counseling, you will receive further information in due course.
