Getting Angry with God

Anger is a tricky emotion. It is triggered both from outside events and feelings from within. It can both blind and disorient us and shake us into great clarity and focus. Anger can be a constructive emotion as long as we don't become wedded to it as a way of life. In this sermon Fr. Garrett looks at the story of one of Jesus' closest inner circle followers who became extremely angry with him and let him know it (Mark 8:31-38). Does God tolerate human anger directed at God? Are there circumstances when it is acceptable to get angry with God? Yes and yes. Unconditional and abiding love does not meet anger with retribution. Instead it responds with faithfulness seeking to right wrongs and heal brokeness. This is the model for our own engagement with anger. How are we doing?
